History and mission

Realco is now THE world leader in the field of enzyme-based cleaning and purification, since it is the first company to have these enzymes incorporated into detergent products, thereby opening the way to a more ecological biotechnology which is also very effective.

History

• 1968: The company was founded
• End of the 1980s: Start of the research in biotechnology
• 1995: Move to Louvain-la-Neuve
• 2006: Floated on stock exchange (Euronext free market)
• 2009: Opening of the American office - Realzyme

REALCO, a Belgian company based in the Parc Scientifique of Louvain-la-Neuve, has been specialising for more than 40 years in environmental biotechnology.

It develops, makes and sells cleaning and purification products based on enzymes and green chemistry technology.

These products, used for waste water treatment and cleaning, have the specific feature of combining real effectiveness with respect for the environment.

REALCO can also cover all specific needs of private individuals and professionals by offering solutions which meet their requirements.

Research

The Research & Development department is constantly working to produce new products, improve manufacturing processes and develop new applications. The result of this research allows REALCO to regularly release innovative products to the market which best meet the specific requirements of customers and consumers.

REALCO's is famed for the company's ability to develop enzyme-based products as a result of its research, produced in collaboration with different universities and research centres: UCL, ULB, Ulg, INRA, MATERIA NOVA, etc.

Realco protects the fruits of its research by filing patents. Its developments are regularly acknowledged by the scientific or professional world; this is evidenced by the different prizes and awards that it has to its credit.

Industrial & Institutional

Realco's professional division sells detergent and waste water treatment products which are intended for:

• institutions (hospitals, schools, factories, etc.): a full range of products which meet the needs in respect of cleaning (meeting HACCP standards) and waste water treatment.
• food industries: innovative products to meet manufacturers' specific requirements: floors and surfaces, washing tunnels, production entities (CIP= Cleaning In Place), membrane filters, grease traps, treatment plants.
• treatment plants: a unique process for converting substances that are not easily treatable into easily assimilable material.

In addition, Realco is developing innovative enzyme-based methods in niche sectors:

• the cleaning of membrane filters for the optimisation and better performance of the membrane filters.
• the treatment of biofilms, to ensure food safety.
• alternative ways of combating plant diseases.
• the improvement of the paper pulp refining process, for considerable energy savings.

Consumers

Products intended for private individuals are meant to be effective and environmentally friendly.

• BIOMAX: enzyme-bacterial know-how in high-performance and environmentally conscious products.
• OXYGEN GREEN ACTION: ecological products for the whole of the house.
• SPLASH: the gold standard in swimming pool products.
• TECHNIK: technical products which meet particular requirements.

A technology which is exported to the 4 corners of the world!

Realco's products are sold in many European countries (France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Eastern Europe, etc.), but also in Japan, thanks to a partnership agreement with the companies Mitsui and Shikoku.

From September 2009, Realco opened its representative office in the USA (Realzyme) to meet the expectations of the American market which is more and more receptive to green technologies.

Possibilities of significant growth have also been initiated in India, China and South America.
