Lexicon
An Amino acid is a molecule which possesses a carbon skeleton and which has two functions: one amine (-NH2) and one carboxyl acid (-COOH).
The Bacteria are unicellular living organisms referred to as “prokaryote”, meaning that they lack both a nucleus and organelles (small functional structures of the cell).
The Biotechnology is the application of the science and of the technology on living organisms to other materials, be it living or non-living, in order to yield knowledge, goods and services in this field.
Not only do Biotechnologies play a major role in the health industries, they are of a particular interest too in the businesses related to the environment, agriculture, food and agriculture,
as well as for the development of innovative industrial processes (such as REALCO’s cleaning processes).
On the other hand, the “Demande Biologique en Oxygène” (DBO / the biological call for oxygen) is the quantity of oxygen required to oxidize the organic (biodegradable) substances in a biological way (oxidation of the biodegradable organic substances by the bacteria).
The “Demande Chimique en Oxygène” (DCO / the chemical call for oxygen, so to speak)
is the consumption of oxygen by the strong chemical oxidants, allowing them to oxidize the organic and mineral substances of water. The DCO value allows us to assess the pollution of the wastewater.
An Enzyme is a molecule (protein) which allows us to accelerate up to millions of times the chemical reactions of the metabolism, both in the cellular and extra-cellular environment.
The Hydrolysis of a substance is its decomposition by water, thanks to the H+ and OH- ions which derive from the dissociation of the water. For instance, the hydrolysis of saccharose produces glucose and fructose.
The Organic Material is the carbon material derived from creatures, be it living or non-living, of vegetable and animal origin.
A Patent is the title or the evidence of industrial property which grants to its holder an exclusive right of exploitation on the invention patented by him.
REALCO has already patented several operating processes with respect to its enzymes.
A Protein is a large molecule which is composed of a chain (or sequence) of amino acids that are linked
one to the other.
A Renewable Raw Material (RRM) is a material which is either extracted from nature (natural resource) or produced by nature itself, and which is used for the production of finished products.
The Wastewater Treatment represents a whole of techniques which consist of purifying water, in a view either to recycle wastewater into the natural environment, or to transform rainwater and groundwater into potable water.
