Process

SEPTIC TANK:
for better operation

  • prevention of clogging
  • elimination of the need for emptying
  • reduction in maintenance costs

I . PROBLEM

Sanitary waters normally have high levels of bacteria that contain intestinal flora germs; these microorganisms are the main source of the bacterial flora that breaks down organic matter in septic tanks.

Population growth and improvements in our living conditions, health and comfort have directly resulted in an increased need for water, and hence in the volume of domestic waste water.

  • The ever more frequent use of detergents, descaling agents, disinfectants and antibiotics inhibits the work of natural bacteria and prevents installations from working properly.
  • Undersizing of installations, in 90% of cases, causes frequent clogging, overflows, odours and pipe breakages involving high maintenance costs.

II. SOLUTION

According to studies carried out by our R&D department, it has been shown that all these problems can be solved by using enzymes and bacteria.

  • 1. Enzymes:
    Organic matter (fat, meat, sugar, etc.) from sanitary water is easily hydrolysable (fatty acids, glycerol, amino acids, glucose, etc.) by enzymes and so becomes more easily assimilable by micro-organisms.
  • 2. Bacteria:
    Regular introduction of purified microorganisms, selected for their ability to develop in an environment like a septic tank, allows bacterial action to be maintained inside the tank.

    Bearing in mind the current intense debate surrounding the issue of septic tanks, it is only the regular introduction of ENZYMES and BACTERIA that can guarantee correct operation, i.e. effective purification, elimination of clogging and of the need for emptying.

    REALCO has selected microorganisms able to develop in this type of environment and so able to break down organic matter.
    Enzymes work with these microorganisms, with their job being to liquefy any fatty matter beforehand, thus making the work of the bacteria quicker and easier.

III. APPLICATIONS

Septic tanks work through decantation and fermentation of organic matter passing through them. Heavy particles settle in the base to form the biological filter (activated sludge), while lighter ones (fats) accumulate on the surface to form the crust.
Anaerobic fermentation (action of bacteria living in an environment without O2) liquefies organic matter present both on the surface and in the bottom.

If the tank is not operating correctly, the layer of accumulated matter grows until it fills the tank and results in the problems mentioned above.

IV. DOSAGE METHOD:

  • Manually, as far upstream as possible, i.e. via the WC or washbasin furthest away from the septic tank.
  • Automatically, via a dosing pump, as far upstream as possible from the main pipe.

DOSAGE

1. Unblocking – Activation:
  • Before starting an E/B treatment under optimal conditions, we recommend emptying the tank before any treatment.
    However it is possible to reactivate an installation using enzymes. Enzymatic hydrolysis makes organic matter soluble, thus making it more easily and quickly assimilable by bacteria.
  • Activation:

    > 500g /m3
  • Unblocking:

    CPL-50: shock dose: 500g / m3;
    Prepare a solution: 500g / m3 of CPL-50 in 10L of hot water (40°C);
    Take out the equivalent of one wheelbarrow full of sludge from the septic tank;
    Mix the solution into the removed sludge;
    Tip the mixture into the septic tank making holes in the crust;
    Then maintain the tank regularly.

2. Maintenance:
  • 1g / user / day
    (for an undersized septic tank)
  • 25g / user / week
    (for a normal size tank)
