It is now possible to detect and visualize a contamination related to a biofilm thanks to a new process of coloring developed by REALCO for open surfaces. This technology is available now with our Biofilm Detection Kit.
The kit is composed with 2 products :
- Coloration reactive
- Cleaning reactive

The blue coloration present in the reagent adheres specifically to the organic substances of the EPS (Extracellular Polymeric Substances) forming the protective matrix of the biofilm.Ce test permet de relever spécifiquement les zones contaminées par la présence d'un biofilm.3 stages
Stage 1 Rinse a slightly wet surface of approximately 10 cm X 10 cm, and then sprinkle it with the blue solution (Reagent 1). Leave for 5 minutes |  |
Stage 2
Rinse the surface with water to eliminate the dye in excess, and then sprinkle it with the transparent solution (Reagent 2). Leave for 5 minutes |  |
Stage 3 : Rub the coloured surface to bring a light mechanical action and eliminate residual colourings and/or possible false-positives. Rinse the surface. When you find yet some blue colouring, the presence of biofilm is confirmed. To eliminate blue colouring, use «Biorem product» or an oxidant. |  |
The process can be used only on a not-porous stainless surfaces, after a cleaning of the installation and
cleaning with acid to eliminate the layers of limescale.
If the test is applied in a slaughterhouse, you have to make an additional treatment with a chloratined product
(2500 ppm of active chlorine), after cleaning with acid.
During the next 4 months, the Belgian Princess Elisabeth polar station, run by Alain Hubert, will use enzymatic products from REALCO!
